About Us

Lexopengov.com was created by Alan V. Seferian in April, 2006 out of a concern that Lexingtonians were frequently being asked to make very important decisions with incomplete information.  Its purpose is to provide citizens with as much additional information as possible, so they could make more fully-informed decisions.  Any concerned citizen may provide content.  Please send me your contributions.

Lexopengov.com is not a political lobbying organization, and does not take positions on specific ballot questions or endorse candidates for political office.   It will however, express opinions on other matters related to our town's government (e.g., shared expenses and voice votes.)

Lexopengov.com's goals:

1. That the town render Lexopengov.com unnecessary by posting all town documents that are considered "public records", as defined by the Massachusetts Public Records Law, to its official web site.;

2. Town meeting cease using anonymous voice votes and instead record and publish each member's vote on every article.  The anonymity of voice votes is anti-democratic, and certainly contrary to the concept of open government;

and

3. That the town abandon or at least modify its use of "Shared Expenses", a bad accounting practice that fails to allocate significant costs to the departments which drive them.
